Ahh, it's that time of year. Here is a small offering of thanks for some of the things that have been on my mind.
I'm thankful that I have so. many. kids. at my house during the week for preschool and piano lessons. They teach me, crack me up, and remind me that life and learning are perpetual. I feel very blessed to be able to spend my days teaching young children. One two year-old sister of a piano student was watching Martha the cat take a bath yesterday and observed, "Him thinks himself is yummy!" I laughed all afternoon.
I'm thankful for books. Our house is overflowing with books. Stacks of them. Wilson and I are reading Summer of the Monkeys right now and it occured to me that I must have read this book a lot as a child, as I know each sentence that is coming next as I read aloud. When I read the parts about Jay Berry running around the hills barefoot, with his dog and his pocketknife Wilson openly aches with envy. Books can do that.
I am so very thankful for everybody who is helping me raise my kids. Family, neighbors, teachers, sports and dance coaches, friends, and church leaders. From the conversations that you have with Eliza while driving her home from babysitting your kids to the compliments you give Wilson on his nice handwriting, I am thankful for the help. Really, really thankful.
