Today is the last day of summer vacation. (If we didn't happen to have a belief that tomorrow is a Holy Day then tomorrow would really be the last day of summer vacation...)
This morning I remembered that last year on the Sunday before school started I had forgotten to have food in the house that Eliza could pack in her lunchbox. So I tried to be more on the ball this year and make a checklist for Monday morning.
1. Hannah Montana lunchbox for Eliza...check
2. Hannah Montana thermos for Eliza (she informed me last year that she would like a little variety in her lunches...I have been packing a PB&J, juice box, fruit and little treat EVERY SINGLE DAY since she started first grade. I never thought twice about it. Monday she's getting mac and cheese in the new thermos)...check
3. Cute new outfit for Eliza (can't be any of the new "school clothes" because those are all for weather cooler than it will be on the first day of school, which is forecasted to be 94. We had to buy new capris and a t-shirt that didn't have a summer's worth of grass and shaved ice stains on them)...check
4. Cute new (not Hannah Montana--I had to draw the line somewhere) backpack for Eliza, filled with obligatory pencils, markers, crayons, box of kleenex, glue sticks etc etc...check
5. New backpack for Wilson, again, filled with all kinds of "school supplies"...check
6. New outfit for Wilson--(This is new territory for me, as this is his first official school year. And I have to admit that I haven't been nearly as enthusiastic about shopping for jeans, camo pants and a various assortment of t-shirts when I can take Eliza to the Children's Place and buy darling skirts and tops with coordinating tights, knee-highs and cute Mary Janes. Darn good thing Wils is happy as a clam to have a new BYU t-shirt as the newest and most exciting addition to his wardrobe.)...check
7. Charged camera battery for the precious FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL picture...check
8. Alarm clock that works. (As someone who admittedly has not risen from bed before 8:30 this ENTIRE summer, this is a tough one)...check
9. Something in the cupboard for a good breakfast...check
10. And finally, a nice, long, heart to heart with myself about this milestone so I don't completely fall to pieces when I leave Adams Elementary Monday morning at 8:45 empty-handed. I have spent almost ten years thinking about how fabulous it would be to have an hour to myself (I don't ask for much) without having to answer crazy questions about geologic formations or break up a fight over holding the rats. Now that that moment is so close I am wondering where on Earth the time went. My babies are in school and I still feel like they were born yesterday. Is this how you feel on their wedding day too? Or at the MTC?? I love having my kids home with me, and if I thought they would benefit from it, I would homeschool them just to be a family all day long. I will miss eating lunch with them this year, and hearing them play in the yard while I mow and weed. And to be completely honest--I will miss watching episodes of SpongeBob every morning!
So here's to another school year! Time keeps a' flyin'!

I wanted to go with you to take the kids to school but I have my work meeting. I can be there when Wilson gets out though. Let me know when he gets out and I'll be there.
You can still watch Sponge Bob!
I am very proud of you for giving in on as much Hannah Montana stuff that you did :-) Post some first day pictures
