Check out my niece. She is twelve years old. She rocks the track and is currently on cusp of breaking a couple of state records. She finishes races with the 2nd place girl half a lap behind her. She is our hero.

My brother drove up from Utah yesterday with his cute girls. Don't they have the best hair ever?
The climax of their visit was tonight, when my brother bravely took on and completed the Big Jud's challenge, and put away the DOUBLE Big Jud's burger. I'm sorry to say I don't have a picture, but if you look at a dinner plate and picture a burger that almost reaches to the edge, and is a a good 5 inches tall, there you go. That, and a boat load of their huge fries. This meal is impressive enough that Adam Richman took it on last year.
Our other exciting news is that Zane's mom---a.k.a. Mama Theresa---is officially an Idaho resident. After many, many years of living on her own in California, she has packed up and headed for the (Boise) (foot)-hills. We are happy to have her near us and the kids are getting a kick out of their 78 year-old Italian granny who tells great stories about The Way Things Used To Be, cooks a mean Brigole, and doesn't feel it necessary to watch her language or always wear her dentures in the company of others. We are happy to have her here. One Grandma moving to Boise down, one to go.
Today was tie-dye day in art class. This is what our backyard looks like tonight. My hands look similar to these shirts. If you see a child wearing a tie-dye around this end of town, there is a good chance they made it in my backyard. I love all the colors! The kids did a great job.
I borrowed a pile of newsapapers from my friend down the street to catch the tie-dye drips and as I was cleaning up tonight I saw something that made me so happy that I immediately questioned the level of excitement I (don't) have in my life. Does anybody else get giddy when they see an unattended, blank crossword puzzle?? I had my camera out, so I thought I'd snap a pic. When I see this I start thinking about how soon I can put my kids in bed and settle in on the couch with a (blue) pen.

Last night I came down the hallway to my room, heard The Young Dubliners singing "I'll Tell Me Ma" and saw this. Made my heart swoon. My beautiful little girl dancing with her braids swinging.
Almost as endearing was her little brother sitting on my bed, playing with his new Lego set, enjoying the music. (Don't tell him I said that)Petey the bird had an exciting week. We had a little friend visiting over a couple of days who kept forgetting to shut the door to his cage. Twice we came home to him strolling around on the floor. We thanked our lucky stars (twice) that someone had thrown the cats out before we left the house.
See? I told you. Seemingly boring details that will be part of a bigger, beautiful puzzle someday.
Ok, they're beautiful to me today. :)

LOVE your blog! Details NOT boring. And, clearly, you brought the one-and-only authentic Mama Theresa back from CA - no other would fit that description. Love ya. :-)
LOVE those tie-dye shirts! No one can make those like you can. Eliza dancing kind of made me teary :( I SO miss watching my ballerina Katie...they grow up way too fast!
Those tie-dyes might be the best yet!
Not to rub it in or anything... but I won tickets to Young Dubliners in NYC and then hung out with them afterwards for 5 hours touring the town, and then saw them in SLC. love their stuff!!!
