Celebration of Grandma's Life

What a beautiful and perfect celebration of Grandma's life this weekend. So many, many people who loved and admired her came from all over. We were there to remember her very full life, but also to support and hopefully comfort Grandpa. It is hard to mix the emotions of joy and happiness in knowing that Grandma is happy and free from pain with the deep sadness of watching her sweetheart grieve. I loved hearing the music at the services---O, Divine Redeemer, All Things Bright and Beautiful, Beautiful Savior and Meditation from Thais. I won't ever hear any of them again without thinking of her.

The oldest son from each of her eleven children's families.
What handsome men.

Grandma was a knitting fiend. She made dozens of beautiful blankets for her family. Laurie wrote a sweet tribute that sums up Grandma's life.

This is the afghan Grandma Allen was working on for Hadley Gates--her 98th great-grandchild. I think she would love to have finished it. She knew there were many earthly things that she might be missing--weddings, baby blessings, recitals, reunions and more but there is no doubt that when it came to the things that matter most, Grandma Allen left nothing unfinished. She taught us to serve, to love and to be strong. She bore testimony of the gospel and taught by example. She believed in and followed the Savior.

"Along the pathway of life you will observe that you are not the only traveler. There are others who need your help. There are feet to steady, hands to grasp, minds to encourage, hearts to inspire, and souls to save."
-President Thomas S. Monson

For those who were
Steadied,
Encouraged,
And inspired by
Marilyn Murphy Allen's life,

We will count ourselves blessed and be forever grateful for her.
