...you would have heard the Red-Winged Blackbirds who spent the morning in our oak tree. That means Spring is nearly here!
***
...you would have eaten cherry turnovers made by my mother-in-law to celebrate George Washington's birthday. Yummm.
***
...you would have had a member of La Cosa Nostra hiding out just a few miles from your town, posing as a farmer for years, until he was finally nabbed by the FBI. It makes me wonder if, thirty years ago, he finished a 'job' in New Jersey, and then thought..."Hmmmm, Idaho...Yeah, that's the place to hide out! Nobody'll suspect a thing!"
***
***
...you would see an empty rat cage. Pearl and Daisy have joined Princess and Whiskers in Rat Heaven. It was time.
***
...you would have a Superintendent of Public Education who would be better suited working...well, anywhere but in public education. This is a man who thinks it is a good idea to reduce teacher pay and increase class size. He is a man who just goes to show that my stinky old running shoes could get elected to public office in Idaho if they were on the Republican ticket.
***
...you would see my daughter getting ready to turn 12. You would see her parents unsure of how to handle this milestone. Smiles. Tears. Repeat.
***
...you would be really lucky because our neck of the woods is so great. Equal parts Seattle and Utah. With a really good bagel shop where you will find me tomorrow with my kiddos who are happily out of school to celebrate George and Abe.

I love those red winged blackbirds! Spring is definitely on it's way :)
I love Idaho! I love this post!
We weren't in your neck of the woods but if we had been we would have rejoiced for the birds and sorrowed for the rats and consoled and congratulated as appropriate for the birthday. And Layden would have loved the cherry turnovers - but not me - I think a cherry should be eaten well before it has a chance to be cooked.
