My daughter begged and pleaded and cried and begged to be homeschooled... since the first day she ever heard the word 'homeschool' and her eyes lit up and she knew there was a God and that he did love her. And then we said, "No." For six years we said no. On a daily basis we said no. And then we went to the Jr. High orientation and registration. And I had the biggest knot in my stomach you could imagine. Not the awe-that-my-first-born-is-going-to-Jr. High-knot. A sick kind of knot that told me we need to give this subject some thinkin'. And so we did. And decided to pay attention to our daughter's soul and buck the system. Over the past few days her home school supplies and books have been arriving via UPS, and you have never seen eyes and a smile so bright. Even the UPS guy thinks homeschooling is a great idea, and vehemently gave us his seal of approval.
So what does homeschool have to do with Justin Bieber?
I mentioned that we have Bieber Fever in our home. And you assumed I was talking about Eliza. I was. Mostly. This morning I was singing into my blow-dryer along with JB and Eliza videotaped me with her phone. It was funny. Until she started working away on her phone to send it out. Which is what we do now, isn't it? We document something and then RELAY it to as MANY people as we can, as FAST as we can.
I told her to STOP RIGHT THIS MINUTE. Not one more button, I said. She said, "I'm *just* sending it to Carlie Paige." Carlie Paige is her tech-savvy cousin who happens to have about fifteen million Facebook friends.
Insert our first homeschool experience here: I asked Eliza to drop her phone and go get the dictionary. The real one, not dictionary.com. I said, "Look up the word EXPONENTIAL."
After she gave me a 'tween look and said, "Geez, Mom, what's your problem?" (she said it with a half-smile so she didn't get in trouble for that bit of sass), she got the dictionary and we talked about what it means to post something to the internet and all about a big word like exponential.
Wish us luck in this new endeavor. And wish us luck that we'll be able to successfully get Wilson out the door to go to 'real' school.

I am giddy over this development. I still hold out high hopes that Koleen and I can convince you to home school our kids someday too... :)
Send the video! If only to me :-)
Personally my favorite JB song is 'Stuck in the moment'. He grows a bit on you doesn't he??
And you're awesome for the home schooling. I think it's going to be amazing for you both
Eliza - you will have to work very hard to succeed with your new teacher. I hear she has high expectations for her students to do their very best. She is also quite intelligent. It is a good thing that you are smart and hard-working and very creative. Not to mention really delightful. I hope you get to take lots of field trips - maybe even to other states, like maybe Hawaii... Best wishes for a wonderful year!
