A simple certificate hanging on our fridge door.
But this is HUGE.
You see, the women in our family (ok, and a lot of the menfolk too) aren't known for their math skills. That is being polite. We like to read a lot. We like to discuss ideas, religion (mostly our own) and recipes. We like to make music, hike, camp, decorate and pull weeds. But we are severely deficient when it comes to the brain part that allows one to understand numbers, and how they work together. (This excludes my big brother, of course, who is a math genius!)
In our home, we make good use of calculators. We round a lot. We tell ourselves that math doesn't matter in real life. We're good at guesstimating. We're pretty sure that calling 5/8 anything but 'about 1/2' is a waste of time. Please believe me when I tell you that to graduate from High School, I had to take a remedial math class that was taught...
wait for it...
in the wood and metal shop that was out near the parking lot. Other than that, I had nearly perfectly straight A's.
(Except that one D in Biology, which is really kind of like math...)
So I am exceptionally proud of my sweet Eliza. She has broken the mold. Good job, Eliza!
