As all of you know, Zane's brother Layden is a Chaplain in the Army. He is currently stationed with the 10th Mtn Division in Iraq, in month 12 of a 16-month deployment. He was in the states for a two-week leave last month and Zane was able to visit with him. How grateful everyone was to have him home for a visit, and know that our prayers for his safety and well-being are being answered! Here are some cool pictures of Layden at work that Aunt Sarah sent to us. One is him in his office, probably preparing a sermon, or looking for guidance in the scriptures to pass on to his soldiers. The other is Layden and his bodyguard. Chaplains don't carry weapons and so this guy is someone we don't know, but someone we love very much!
If anyone is interested in sending letters or Christmas and/or care packages to the soldiers in his brigade, e-mail me, and I will give you the address. (This is a great Family Home Evening project!) I think any taste of home is welcomed there. Last year, Eliza's school class wrote letters to Layden and his soldiers and they wrote back, including pictures of what they're doing. The kids loved it.
So, thank you, Layden, for being a great example to my kids, and to everyone who hears us brag about you. We appreciate what you're doing and can't wait to see you next Spring!

I am always so thankful for the men and families that can do this. I can't imagine what he goes through. I am happy that Zane got to visit with him. He probably has some insane stories!
