Random Thoughts from Utah

Beautiful Mt. Timpanogos

Eliza, Wilson and I drove to Utah yesterday for our annual mid-July trek to the homeland. We enjoy our myriad cousins, aunts and uncles tremendously (I wrote before about running into my family members around town when we're in Utah Valley, and it happened again tonight in Target when I saw my Aunt/Uncle and their kids who are also visiting here from their new home in Calgary).

The coolest part of our trip so far was driving in my brand-spankin' new car. It smells soooo good. The XM radio rocks, and I got to listen to the Red Sox game from Mountain Home to somewhere between Burley and Snowville. Anything that makes that hideous stretch of freeway less hideous is good. I threatened my kids with fates worse than death if they dropped french fries or wiped boogers in this new beauty. Laurie told me today that I need to get my first scratch or stain on the upholstery sooner than later so I can exhale and just enjoy.
More thoughts that are too fleeting to expound upon, as my bed on the couch is calling.

1. Everyone needs a big brother like Scott to watch your back. Love you, bro.
2. Grandparents are truly precious. Mine are both 85 and couldn't be cooler. I love being in the room with four generations of Allens.
3. My sister, Laurie, is good for some laughs when she is sleep deprived. Especially when she walks into plate glass windows.
4. My mom only gets more beautiful with each birthday. Happy 63rd, Mom!
5. The traffic lights in Orem are unbearably long. More so when it is 103 degrees. No wonder everyone here risks life and limb to run them.
6. A thought that has been weighing on my mind: After quizzing everyone I know here about Noah's Ark, we unanimously agree (love this essay as well) that a God who can create the Universe and everything in it can surely figure out how to herd up a bunch of animals onto a boat. And keep them from eating each other and whatnot.
7. Timpanogos is the most beautiful mountain in the world.
8. Zack Hample is my new favorite blogger.
9. Mean people who wreck other people's lives and then yell at them and act snotty about it should be banished to Dante's fifth circle of hell.
*And*, to end on a happy note,
10. Jeremy Guthrie and Clay Zavada are our new favorite baseball players. Check 'em out, they're awesome.

Isn't Scott the best! I'm jealous you guys were all able to go see Grandpa Jennings. Did you eat at the Frontier? Yum.
